Haiti government asks for international military assistance

A government in Haiti is asking for international military assistance to protect the nation from the deadly earthquake that ravaged the nation last month.

The request was issued Wednesday, November 28, the day after the 7.0 magnitude quake struck, killing nearly 300 people and causing millions of dollars in damage to homes and infrastructure in the capital of Port-au-Prince and in other areas.

The request comes after President Michel Martelly on Wednesday announced that he plans to form a new government.
