WIMBLEDON, England — Fans of the sport of tennis are increasingly vocal about their disapproval of violence and sexual misconduct in the sport, and the former world No. 1 has decided to take action. In the wake of his alleged encounter with a woman at Wimbledon, Kyrgios has asked the woman if she wants to pursue a court case against him, and said all he needs to prove his case is “a couple of Facebook messages with a screenshot of what it looked like when we first met.”

Kyrgios, 21, a two-time Wimbledon champion, reached his biggest career-high ranking (No. 4 in the world) April 7, 2017, at the All England Club, where he was confronted by a woman he met on an internet dating site for Wimbledon fans. The woman claims he offered her drugs and “drank out of her mind,” said two women who worked for Kyrgios’ family at Monday’s hearing in London’s High Court, and that the two had consensual sex at a hotel room in a city center on the night of July 6, 2017. Kyrgios, though, argues that the woman’s story is fabricated, and his lawyers have said the case against him will be “a matter of fact-based evidence, not hearsay.”
