Rafael Nadal is looking forward to welcoming the first of two children into the world.

The world number one left the beach resort of Marbella in Spain on Wednesday afternoon in a private jet and flew straight to a private villa in the hills outside Madrid.

His first son was born at 4.41pm (3.41pm local time) and while it was’very quick’, Rafa said ‘everything was perfect’.

Rafael says he and his wife Amelie will miss the sun and the beach but are’very well’ now and have moved into a new house in the hills near Madrid.

Rafa also spoke to a Spanish journalist who revealed: ‘He came out of the box with a tiny bump and in perfect health. Everything was okay from there.’

The new father told media he is’very calm’ as the whole process happened over three hours.

‘I slept a lot during the process, which is unusual for me,’ he said. ‘It’s an exceptional day.

The tennis player said he wants to thank everyone who has helped him this year

‘Everything is going smoothly. I’m very calm, everything is fine and the baby is perfect.

‘It’s a good news-good news pregnancy.’
