LOS ANGELES — Southern California is expected to get three days of rain and snow, the latest in a string of winter storms that is forecast to arrive today, Wednesday and Thursday in the San Gabriel Mountains.

The weather service says a storm system will begin hitting the region with up to 6 inches of rain and up to 20 inches of snow later today. The bulk of the precipitation is expected to fall on Thursday, with as much as 3-6 inches in the mountains, but the wettest parts of the storm system will be late Wednesday and into Thursday morning, the weather service says.

A storm system is also expected to hit the Los Angeles basin late Tuesday and Wednesday with rain, snow and gusty winds, but the system will reach the mountains by Friday afternoon, the weather service says.

Heavy snow and strong gusty winds will be associated with the storm system, the NWS said.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for most of the mountain pass-area, including the San Gabriel Mountains, extending into the coastal mountain
