Serena and Venus Williams knocked out of doubles’ play by Czech duo at US Open: ‘We have seen Venus’ power against all her opponents’
Venus Williams and Serena Williams are in the news for every reason under the sun this week, but what has the tennis superstar’s rivalry with Czech duo Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka got to do with another tennis match?
Hlavackova and Hradecka’s Wimbledon clash saw the second seeds go up a set to No. 1 seed Agnieszka Radwanska in a 6-3, 7-6(1) victory in the women’s doubles.
The duo, however, were no match for Serena and Venus Williams, who had the duo in hot water in early 2018.
Two of the world’s finest women’s tennis players going at it in a doubles match and the results were a bit shocking.
“We can’t fight anymore. We don’t have enough power,” Serena said in a press conference after their defeat. “It’s very nice and very nice for our fans.”
But Serena’s statements are a bit misleading.
The reason Venus and Serena are so unhappy is because they were beaten by Serena and Venus’ Czech double-team of Hlavackova and Hradecka. Serena and Venus’ victory saw them win the Women’s Tennis Association doubles rankings for the first time in their career.
They’ll never forget their US Open loss, which they believe cost them the No. 1 ranking.
