Ontario’s Ministry of Health confirms third case of COVID-19 in Halton County

Omicron variant of COVID-19 confirmed in Halton and Durham regions cases

The omicron variant of COVID-19, also known as SARS-CoV-2, has been identified by the Ontario Ministry of Health as being circulating in two separate areas and has been confirmed to be circulating in a third area.

The Ministry issued the following statement on Friday: “The Ministry of Health is reporting that a third case in our province has been confirmed with this new variant of the virus in Halton County. As a preventative measure we are advising anyone who has attended a large-scale event in Halton County that attends this weekend’s NHL Winter Classic in nearby Orillia or the next two games in Oshawa to monitor their symptoms over the weekend.

In addition to our public health partners, we are fortunate in that our community cares deeply for each other and helps each other in various ways on a daily basis. Please keep the lines between us and those who have contracted COVID-19 in our community, as we work to contain and prevent new infections.

We have also seen significant community support and assistance from businesses throughout the region and we want to thank all of those who have volunteered to assist with health care, food and the like to those in need.

Ontario is preparing for the possibility of another spike in cases as we know that the situation is fluid and at this point in time,
