Weather Forecasters warn residents to be careful out on the roads

Massive storm to lash Southern California with three days of rain and snow

As Southern California continues to deal with the wintry conditions that have kept the region in limbo for nearly a week, officials warn residents of the region to prepare for another week of extreme weather and to be careful out on the roads.

In a release Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said that there is a small chance for a coastal storm in the days ahead, followed by a few days that could be very stormy with heavy rain, strong winds and perhaps a few snow flurries.

It looks like the forecast is for the first storm to start Thursday and for the rain and snow to continue into next week. Another storm is likely to begin Friday that could bring additional heavy rain and possibly a few snow flurries. That will be followed by several more days with little rain and just a few snow flurries. A few days later, the rain will taper off enough to allow for a slight snow in the final forecasted days of the storm.

So far, there has been a light dusting of snow in the higher elevations of the San Gabriel Mountains. The first wave of the storm will begin to move through the area Friday and continue through Saturday, giving people a chance to travel safely.

By the end of the storm, it looks like there could be more than 10 inches of rain statewide. That total is based on the current weather from this morning to noon. If that forecast comes true, the rain will slow down, then slow back up again. At this point it still looks like there could be more than 6 inches of rain statewide.

While the National Weather Service is predicting that the rain will be mostly over by Saturday, there is a small chance of rain that will taper off on Saturday morning for the first chance that storm will begin to move through the area. A slight chance for another storm in the first half of next week as the rain moves through will be followed by a few more days of rain before the rain tapers off.

The rain is expected to taper off for the first part of next week after it started on Monday. But the National Weather Service also says that the rain could last for an additional 7 days. The next days would be another week of rain, followed by an additional week of mostly rain. There is a chance that there will be more rain in the last two weeks of the storm.

On Wednesday, the National Weather Service said that
